Hi, I have a new Lenovo G530 and there is no sleep mode option on the start menu, or when I press Alt + F4.
The OS is Vista home Basic.

I've checked power management, gone to the advanced options, and even downloaded a power management driver from the Lenovo site.

Basicly, my laptop has to be either restarted, or shut down after every use.

Anyone know what's going on here?

Thanks...
?

Are you using the classic start menu or the vista start menu.
If I go to my vista start menu on my vista Home machine running SP 1 and right arrow over 3 times sleep is the last option I have available to me in the shut down options.
Perhaps the MFR has disabled it somehow from there install of WV?

it could just be a limitation of Vista Home Basic. I think that one also limits you to running 3 apps at a time ... well sorta.

How can the sleep option be enabled?

The start menu is in classic.

It's doubtful that this is a limitation of Vista Home Basic. This is a laptop and such a limitation would completely oppose the purpose of a portable computer.

Thanks...

What do you mean run three apps at a time? I've got about 5 running right now. I'm running home basic SP2, vista start menu, and I also see sleep as one of the options in that menu.

Hi,
the vista starter edition has the limitation with regard to x amount of apps that is supposed to run.

thats why i said sort of .. its all about what vista considers apps in this case.. i think the way they do it is that all the microsoft or certin other apps whther part of the os or third party doesn't count towards your 3 app limit.

There are also no screen saver options...

My guess is that all of these problems are related.

So, anyone know what's going on?

is this a netbook or laptop? How much Ram is in it? Its likely that they did strip it out of the install of the OS thats on that computer if they had their own power management app. And no screen saver, hmm could of been taken out among some other things to try and get vista to run better on some low powered hardware, I am assuming thats waht it is if its only vista basic that it came with.

if you only have vista basic your computer may not have the ability to do how vista sleeps. Vista seems to go in to a half sleep half hibernate, at least on both of my systems it does. It sleeps like normal shutting down all power systems, but moving the mouse or pressing a key on the keyboard wakes it. However, if my computer is unplugged or power flickers it's more like hibernate that i have to press the power button to wake it.
Not sure of the low power laptops and such can do that or not
